We have already written about the benefits of Hyvä regarding loading speed and Core Web Vitals results in our article Hyvä for Magento. In this article, we look at what an online store on Hyvä looks like from the perspective of the team managing it. We check what changes in working with content, as well as payment and delivery integrations, and what licensing costs apply in 2026 after the Hyvä Theme became an open-source solution.
From this article, you will learn:
For several years, one of the first questions when considering Hyvä was the license price. In November 2025, the situation changed fundamentally: the creators of Hyvä made the Hyvä Theme available under OSL 3.0 and AFL 3.0 licenses, the same ones under which Magento Open Source operates. Therefore, the theme can be used free of charge, including in commercial projects, to build custom templates.
Complementary products remained paid. Hyvä Checkout, a one-step checkout solution, costs a one-off fee of €1,000. The Hyvä Commerce package, which combines Hyvä Theme, Checkout, the Hyvä UI component library, the Hyvä CMS content management system, and an admin dashboard (and is regularly expanded with new functionalities), is available via subscription for €3,000 per year. The price does not depend on store turnover or the number of users. A separate product – Hyvä Enterprise – is intended for stores running on Adobe Commerce.
Importantly, the Hyvä Commerce subscription model differs from typical SaaS solutions. If a store does not renew its subscription, it retains all implemented features and continues to work without changes. However, it loses access to updates and premium support. From a budget planning perspective, this is a significant difference, as the risk associated with canceling the subscription is limited to missing out on new versions rather than disrupting sales.
Hyvä replaces the store's presentation layer—what the customer sees. The Magento backend remains the same. Products, prices, orders, cart rules, customer accounts, and integrations with ERP, PIM, or BaseLinker systems are managed in the admin panel exactly as before. As a result, the customer service and logistics teams do not need to learn a new tool, and the frontend migration itself does not affect order fulfillment processes.
With the free Hyvä Theme, content on pages and in CMS blocks is edited using standard Magento tools. For many stores, this is sufficient, especially if changes to the homepage or landing pages are rare and usually handled by the development team.
It looks different in stores where the marketing department regularly prepares campaigns and wants to act independently. Hyvä CMS, available as part of Hyvä Commerce, offers an editor with a live page preview, drafts, publication scheduling for a specific date, change history, and sharing previews for approval. The system also supports content translation using AI, which is important for stores operating across multiple markets.
For stores that have been building content in Page Builder for years, it is important to know that installing Hyvä CMS does not require rebuilding it. The new editor is enabled separately for selected pages or blocks, and existing content can be migrated gradually.
In practice, the difference is best seen in a seasonal campaign such as Black Friday. In a store using only the Hyvä Theme, a promotional landing page is usually prepared by a developer based on a graphic design. In a store with Hyvä CMS, the marketing team can build the same page from ready-made components, schedule publication for a specific time, and send a preview for approval without involving the IT team.
English-language materials about Hyvä often overlook an issue that is fundamental for a Polish online store: support for BLIK, parcel lockers, and deferred payments. According to Hyvä documentation, delivery and payment methods that do not add custom frontend elements work in Hyvä Checkout without additional modules. Those requiring a pickup point map, form, or payment widget need a compatibility module—a small extension that recreates in Hyvä those frontend elements that were originally written for the Luma theme.
In the Polish market, the situation is as follows: Przelewy24 provides its own official module for Magento 2.4.x with Hyvä Checkout, continuously updated (the latest version dates from August 2026). InPost Paczkomaty are on the official delivery integration list for Hyvä Checkout, with point selection performed via GeoWidget. Other popular services – Tpay, PayU, PayPo, Santander Consumer Bank installments, or DHL – require compatibility modules that are available on the market or prepared during implementation.
| Service | Status in Hyvä Checkout | What it means for the store |
|---|---|---|
| Przelewy24 | Official provider module for Hyvä Checkout | Full support for P24 payment methods without additional work |
| InPost Paczkomaty | On the official Hyvä Checkout delivery integration list | Parcel locker selection in GeoWidget |
| Tpay | Requires a compatibility module | BLIK with code in checkout, card without redirection |
| PayU | Requires a compatibility module | Card payment on the store page, saved cards |
| PayPo | Requires a compatibility module | Buy now, pay later (deferred payments) |
| Santander Consumer Bank | Requires a compatibility module | Installments – terms acceptance and application after ordering |
| DHL | Requires a compatibility module | Delivery to pickup point |
| BaseLinker, ERP, PIM | No changes required | Integrations work on the backend side |
This comparison shows that the Hyvä ecosystem in the Polish market is mature and covers all key payment and delivery methods. This also applies to cross-border sales – compatibility modules exist for Mollie, Adyen, and others, which matters for companies operating in multiple markets.
It is also worth knowing that migrating to Hyvä does not force you to build a new checkout. The store can remain with its current checkout, which then works as a fallback option, and carry out the change later or not at all. However, this does not eliminate the need for verification before launch. Compatibility modules are developed independently of Hyvä Checkout itself, so with each update, it is worth checking whether the module version remains compatible with it.
Implementation costs are usually calculated best, but a store's budget also consists of ongoing expenses. In the case of Hyvä, these primarily include optional licenses – Hyvä Checkout at a one-time price of €1,000 or Hyvä Commerce for €3,000 per year, with the option to purchase a five-year license in a single payment. The Hyvä Theme itself generates no licensing costs.
The second position is the hours worked by the development team on Magento and module updates. Hyvä's simplified frontend architecture means fewer JavaScript dependencies and thus fewer points that might break after an update. These costs are further reduced by Hyvä AI – a set of skills for AI tools prepared by Hyvä. Combined with Hyvä Components, it makes generating new elements or modifying the frontend up to 50% faster and cheaper than on Luma.
The third item, often overlooked during estimation, is compatibility modules for extensions that do not yet have a Hyvä version. This is a one-time cost, but it is worth estimating before signing an implementation agreement, as the number of such modules depends on how many frontend extensions the store uses.
Based on experience from implementations and migrations, we have prepared a list of elements worth verifying before switching traffic to the new frontend:
Does a Hyvä store have a different admin panel?
No. The Magento panel remains unchanged. Hyvä Commerce optionally adds a refreshed panel theme and a dashboard with basic sales metrics.
Is Hyvä free?
Hyvä Theme has been available for free under an open-source license since November 2025. Hyvä Checkout, Hyvä Commerce, and Hyvä Enterprise remain paid.
Do BLIK and InPost parcel lockers work in a Hyvä store?
Yes. Przelewy24 has an official module for Hyvä Checkout, InPost is on the Hyvä integration list, and compatibility modules are available for Tpay and PayU.
Can you switch to Hyvä without changing the platform?
Yes. Hyvä is a frontend for Magento 2, so products, customers, orders, and backend integrations remain unchanged.
What happens if the store stops paying for Hyvä Commerce?
The store continues to work with all implemented features. It only loses access to updates and premium support.
An online store on Hyvä differs from a store on Luma primarily in what the team no longer has to do: wait for slow-loading pages, work around legacy code limitations, and explain to customers why checkout runs slower than the competition's. At the same time, implementation requires preparation, especially regarding integration with Polish payment and delivery providers.
At Advox, we implement Hyvä both in new projects and in migrations from classic Magento frontends, including for brands like Olivit and Kinderkraft. If you are considering Hyvä for your store and want to see what it would look like in your case,
