eCommerce news #no. 18

If you want to stay up to date with what's going on in eCommerce, there's no better way than to follow our eCommerce News which appears every 2 weeks. In each part, we provide the latest information on what initiatives are taken by companies operating in various industries, what valuable publications appeared, and what trends reinforce their popularity. This time we take a closer look at the activities of 4F, the reCommerce trend noticed by Provident, and the results of a study conducted by Santander bank. The latest knowledge - only with us!

Shoes from 4F in ecological packaging

We are constantly reporting on the next steps taken by companies in various industries to reduce waste in orders delivered from online stores. eCommerce companies are racing to come up with solutions to limit plastic consumption and take care of the sustainable development of their businesses. This time, at the forefront, stands 4F, a Polish brand designing sports clothes and accessories, which is replacing plastic packaging with cardboard and paper envelopes. 100% environmentally friendly, recyclable? Absolutely!

The introduction of ecological packaging is a very important step in executing the 4F Change strategy, in which the company has already taken such actions as creating a second-hand clothes zone in stationary stores, starting a ski rental, and putting up a clothesomat. As part of the Wear_Fair program, the company is also trying to switch to a circular cycle of clothing.

Will the initiatives undertaken stop logistics from being the Achilles heel of eCommerce? We will definitely keep an eye on it. You can find information about the new 4F initiative here.

Are you buying secondhand? You are reinforcing the reCommerce trend

Interesting conclusions can be drawn from the Provident Barometer survey conducted every year on the occasion of World Consumer Day - more than half of Poles decided to buy products from the second-hand market in the last 12 months, an increase of almost 10% compared to the previous survey. What's more, as many as 15% of respondents declared that they regularly buy second-hand goods and 60% admitted that instead of throwing unnecessary things away they decided to resell or give them away.

Such actions are in line with the spirit of less waste, which is the result of concern for the environment. But not only that - reCommerce is simply becoming a fashion. Better yet, as a consumer trend, it is especially characterized by young people who are aware that they can find a product that simultaneously provides the opportunity to stand out (and are reluctant to use products that can be found in any chain store) and takes care of the environment - ultimately, they will be responsible for the planet for longer.

Similar conclusions appeared in a study conducted by ARC Market & Opinion and Responsible Business Forum. It was also pointed out that more and more stores that aim to offer only second-hand products are appearing, not only in the fashion industry.

Who would have thought that we will reach the time when a second-hand item is no longer a reason to be ashamed (as it was only a few years ago), but actually something to boast about? Provident's survey is available on this site.

Caring about online safety - true or false?

Some time ago, on the occasion of World Consumer Day, which falls every year on March 15, we wrote about ways to take care of safety during eCommerce shopping. We pointed out that you should check whether the store, among other things:

  • has an SSL certificate,
  • offers identifiable payment methods ( via well-known operators),
  • has prices comparable to those of its competitors,
  • gets positive reviews on the Internet,
  • was registered in CEIDG or KRS.

Are we worried about consumer safety for no reason? Not really.

Santander Consumer Bank conducted a study, which showed that although 90 percent of Poles use the Internet, as many as 15 percent do not think about security when performing activities in the online world. Further numbers do not fill with optimism either - only 54% verify an online store in terms of credibility before placing an order. As experts from Santander point out, such behaviour gives fraudsters a very large field of action. The more often we use the offer of online stores, the more we have to be aware of the cyber threats we are exposed to.

And does your online store have all these features contributing to safe shopping that 46% of Poles pay attention to? You can read more about the Santander Consumer Bank study here.
