This is just a taste of the most exciting eCommerce news from recent weeks. Discover more current updates in this issue of our Press Release. Read it and stay in the know!

Poles prefer to shop locally, even online

“What city is the online store from where I’m planning to order?” This is a question Polish consumers are increasingly asking during online shopping. This phenomenon, known as “local eCommerce,” is thoroughly examined in the report “Local Online Trade 2024,” commissioned by TrustMate.

Research shows that a store’s locality is starting to play a key role in purchasing decisions. This trend is driven by a rising demand for faster delivery (more people are ordering online and opting for local pick-up), greater flexibility with returns, and a desire to support local businesses. Additionally, customers choose local companies for reasons such as:

  • attractive prices – 70.4%,
  • positive customer reviews – 64%,
  • distance from home - 45%,
  • loyalty programs – 25%.

The report highlights that local online stores are gaining importance, especially in smaller towns, where consumers appreciate more personalised service and greater product availability. TrustMate emphasises that local eCommerce isn’t just a passing trend but a long-term market direction that is likely to strengthen in the coming years.

Amazon’s virtual store encourages holiday shopping

Brick-and-mortar stores are gradually filling up with festive decorations, creating that unique atmosphere eagerly awaited by shoppers who love celebrating this time of year. Amazon, the eCommerce leader, has found a way to bring that special holiday spirit into the online space. The company has launched an innovative, three-dimensional shopping environment that lets customers immerse themselves in the festive mood without leaving home.

The Virtual Holiday Shop offers a space where users can browse through 300 of the most popular gift ideas available on the marketplace. Customers can move around the virtual store, explore products from various angles, and discover unique selections—from classic bestsellers to handcrafted, one-of-a-kind gifts.

Amazon has ensured that the experience is as intuitive as possible, offering options like fast delivery, free returns, and personalised recommendations. This makes holiday shopping not only easier but also filled with the magical spirit customers cherish in December. This approach is set to help Amazon stand out from the competition during the busy promotional season.

Social media drives eCommerce. Publicis Groupe Report

We turn to them to stay updated on world events, keep in touch with family and friends, and increasingly, to shop online. We’re talking about social media, which is becoming an ever more important sales channel, according to the latest report by Publicis Groupe CEE and GWI.

The research reveals that:

  • The greatest impact on users comes from short-form videos, such as content on TikTok and Instagram Reels. These dynamic, quick formats capture consumers' attention and prompt them to make purchases.
  • A significant portion of users visit social media platforms to find shopping inspiration. They search for information about products and brands primarily on platforms like Facebook (86%), Instagram (50%), TikTok (44%), and Pinterest (15%).
  • Notably, the report shows that social media influence extends beyond younger generations. It engages nearly every age group—from Gen Z (ages 16-26) to Baby Boomers (ages 60-64).

Social commerce is no longer just an add-on to online sales strategies but is becoming a crucial channel that allows brands to reach a broad audience. With the growing popularity of video content and interactive communication, brands can not only boost sales but also build loyalty and foster authentic relationships with their customers.
