eCommerce news #no. 22

There is no better way to stay up to date with what's going on in the eCommerce grass than following the Advox Press Release which appears regularly - like clockwork - every 2 weeks. Each edition is another dose of the latest knowledge about the activities of entities operating in various industries, about initiatives taken or solutions implemented. This time we write about Amazon's new tool using AR technology, the situation of shopping platforms in Poland and the way Poles overcome shopping (smart shopping trend). Enjoy reading!

Amazon + VR = better customer experience

In one of our previous eCommerce Press Release we mentioned that Pinterest has introduced Try On for Home Decor, which uses AR (augmented reality) technology to allow you to create a visualization of your furniture placement at home. This is the second such tool, next to Pinterest Try On helping you individually choose the right eye shadow color. Amazon does not distance itself in the use of modern technology - for this reason, it has provided users with the opportunity to virtually try on the model and color of shoes that we are interested in.

All you have to do is enter the Amazon app, find the product, select the "Virtual fitting" option under the photo of the shoes, scan the QR code, and then point the camera at your feet and see how they look in "reality". That's it - and the effect at home is almost like visiting a store (at least visually).

So far this feature is available only in the United States and Canada for iOS users under newer models. Soon it should also appear on Android with the option to try on not only shoes, but also glasses or T-shirts. There is no information yet if it will be introduced in European countries.

The opportunity to virtually try on Nike, Adidas, New Balance or Asics shoes is sure to be positively received by consumers. If this topic interests you, take a look at here.

Allegro still in the lead

As many as 86% of consumers have at least once in their lives made a purchase on Allegro - such are the results of research conducted by the Atena Research & Consulting. What is more, as many as 30% of people start their search for needed products on this domestic sales platform (in the case of Google it is only 18%), which is far behind Amazon or the increasingly popular Shopee. Such numbers convince us that Allegro is still the leader in eCommerce sales.

These are not the only interesting data coming out of the study:

  • as many as 34% of Polish Internet users begin their path on the most popular sales platforms,
  • Aliexpress is used by about 33% of users,
  • in the case of Amazon and Shopee, only 15% of people said they had used the platform at least once in their lives,
  • almost 100% of consumers say they find exactly what they need on the Allegro platform and on Google.

Such data encourage you to be interested in offering your offer on Allegro. If you have ever wondered about being present on the marketplace, take a look at our article where we delve into this topic in detail.

In the age of inflation, smart shopping reigns supreme?

When analyzing the current situation in the world of eCommerce, it's hard not to refer to the current economic and social situation. Extremely high inflation, post-pandemic mood, constantly changing tax laws and the war in Ukraine lasting for over 3 months - all these events affect consumer behavior during shopping, both stationary and online. The survey conducted by Atena Research&Consulting shows that Poles are aware of the current situation (51%) and for that reason they are becoming more smart - they make purchases in a more thoughtful manner (55%) and try to save money (40%). At the same time as many as 66% of these conscious consumers choose online shopping over in-store shopping.

What do Polish consumers consider when making a purchase? The survey shows that they care about finding the best shopping offer not only in terms of price, but also availability, convenience of purchase, free delivery or time savings. Certainly these are factors that every eCommerce owner should take into account when managing their online store.
